Born in Derby 10 years after steam finished as a form of traction on British Rail. Stuart was introduced to steam locomotives from an early age by his father. Travelling behind preserved locos both on heritage railways and railtours on the national network.
The UK is fortunate to have such a large supply of steam locomotives now preserved both on static display and restored to working order. It is these working locomotives, based on the various heritage railways located around the UK. That Stuart enjoys photographing as part of his hobby.
While photographing heritage traction Stuart has become a supporter for various railways over the years. Great Central Railway, NYMR, Midland Railway - Butterley, Severn Valley Railway have all benefited, along with the following locomotives; 80098, 70013 'Oliver Cromwell', 63601, 46233 'Duchess of Sutherland', 53809 & 73129.
All photographs taken by Stuart have been taken either from a public space or with landowners permission. All lineside images have been taken using authorised photography permits issued by the respective railway where applicable.
In addition to railway photography, Stuart enjoys taking a wide variety of images from people portraits to scenic landscapes.
